SASSA issues important notice to COVID-19 SRD grant beneficiaries

PRETORIA - South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has notified COVID-19 SRD Grant beneficiaries that the official electronic Know Your Client (eKYC) system is back online.

Clients can now do biometric identity verification. 

"We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused during the downtime and appreciate your patience and understanding during this period.

"eKYC is used to ensure that SASSA pays the right social grant to the right person at the right time and place, Njalo," said the SASSA Office.

Meanwhile, the SASSA North West region conducted a Fraud Awareness Session with contracted medical practitioners and law enforcement institutions namely: the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and the State Security Agency. 

The aim is to strengthen governance and support through stakeholder collaboration. The session was held in Rustenburg.

DURBAN -  The eThekwini Municipality's Recreation and Parks Directorate, working together with the City's Emergency Services, are attending to multiple incidents across the city following strong winds that swept through eThekwini this afternoon and early evening, uprooting trees and disrupting traffic in several communities. No injuries have been reported at this stage. Since last night, 23 fallen trees had been reported across the city. Penuel "The Black Pen" Mlotshwa makes his vote public

JOHANNESBURG - Podcaster and activist Penuel "The Black Pen" Mlotshwa has made his vote known for the upcoming Local Government Elections. Mlotshwa, who's no stranger to sharing his political views online, went public about his preferred party for the elections taking place in November. BOKSBURG - The Gauteng National Taxi Association is threatening a provincial industry strike should its concerns remain ignored. The Association says if a meeting with Roads and Transport MEC, Kedibone Diale-Tlabela isn't fruitful and its memorandum of demands aren't met, consequently this force them to disrupt services for seven days. On Thursday, 16 July 2026, MEC held a strategic engagement with the Vosloorus and Boksburg District Taxi Association (VBDTA) in Ekurhuleni, as part of the provincial government's ongoing efforts to strengthen collaboration with the minibus taxi industry.
