This momentous event was held at the Marikana informal settlement, where a meal was served to people in need, and the children were also given teddy bears. EMPANGENI -  In commemoration of Mandela Month, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) participated in a Mandela Day programme convened by Pink Drive in the Vulindlela Township of KwaDlangezwa. Pink Drive is a non-profit organisation assisting in the fight against cancer. A team of NPA officials comprised of Seneliso Sibanda, Mandisa Sikakane , Amanda Nxumalo who are Court Preparation Officers, Nomusa Nkosi who is the Senior Public Prosecutor, Summi Harrynand the Control and Thembi Mkhwanazi, the Case Manager. They set up a mini kitchen where breakfast was served to the members of the community who came in for cancer screening. The NPA team utilised the platform to educate people about the work of the Court Preparations Unit and services of the NPA in general. The NPA participated along with the Department of Health as well as the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development.

The convictions, handed down in the Durban Regional Court, mark the successful conclusion of an investigation that began in 2023 after Marshall Security members identified a disturbing trend involving suspects using fake social media profiles to target unsuspecting victims. Victims were allegedly lured to hotel rooms and bed and breakfast establishments in the Durban North, Umhlanga, and Ballito areas, where they were assaulted, restrained, robbed of their belongings, and forced to hand over access to their bank accounts. KEMPTON PARK - The Glen on Cars, an automotive community organisation, has stepped in to assist a humiliated Fidelity Services Group guard while simply trying to do his job. Teboho Kabayi, a guard stationed at BMW Kempton Park was belittled by two men travelling in a BMW who claimed to be millionaires while refusing to answer security questions at the dealership boom gate. The video which was meant to humiliate him has taken a different turn as social media and Good Samaritans rallied behind Kabayi. The Glen On Cars, one of the supporters conducted a fundraising campaign to help restore Kabayi's dignity. The campaign has raised over R30 000 for Kabayi. The so-called "millionaires" who allegedly run an internet café in Tembisa, a township in Ekurhuleni, have since posted another video defending their viral stance.

LENASIA - The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) has advised motorists of an active protest action causing significant traffic disruptions in Lenasia. Klipspruit Valley Road (K43) is currently blocked and barricaded between Bangalore Street and Vaal Street, next to the Them'belihle Informal Settlement. JOHANNESBURG - Veteran South African Actor Seputla Sebogodi, famously known for his iconic role as Kenneth Mashaba on SABC 1's Generations, has died.  His family confirmed that he passed away on Tuesday evening following complications to diabetes. He was 63. He leaves behind a lasting legacy in theatre and television, with memorable performances spanning decades. One of his formidable on-screen roles was the portrayal of the character Kenneth Mashaba, a vicious businessman who dominated the advertising and underground worlds.  The memorial and funeral details are yet to be confirmed by his family.

JOHANNESBURG -  The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) has proudly commended three of its dedicated officers from the Rea Vaya Unit for their swift, compassionate, and exemplary action in rescuing an abandoned newborn baby girl in the Johannesburg inner city. On Monday, 13 July 2026, at approximately 23:43, JMPD Rea Vaya Unit officers were conducting routine route patrols and station visits near the intersection of Saratoga Avenue and Hadfield Street, Doornfontein. The officers were flagged down by two members of the public who reported hearing a baby crying in a nearby open veld. Without hesitation, the officers proceeded directly to the designated location to investigate. Upon searching the open veld, the officers made a heartbreaking discovery. PIETERMARITZBURG - A newborn baby was found dead in the Pietermaritzburg CBD on 11 July after emergency services were called to Longmarket Street.p At approxi4mately 13:40, Mi7 Emergency Medical Services received reports that a newborn had been discovered inside rubbish bags. Parpamedics were immediately dispatched to the scene. On arrival, Mi7 crews found SAPS already in attendance. Paramedics were directed to the location where the newborn, together with the afterbirth, had been found among the rubbish bags. Despite a rapid assessment, the baby showed no signs of life and was declared deceased on scene. SAPS detectives attended and secured the area while investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident got underway.

JOHANNESBURG - Illegal trading continues in areas that the court ordered must not be occupied or used at Marble Towers, the City of Johannesburg reflected as it intensifies bylaws in the Inner City. Joburg Mayor Dada Morero says the City of Johannesburg cannot and will not tolerate continued contempt of a court order. Those who choose to disregard the rule of law must face the consequences. "The City will now proceed with all lawful enforcement measures available to ensure compliance with the judgment. We will shut down all unlawful trading activities and secure every non-compliant structure as directed by the court. Where there is continued defiance, the City will return to court where necessary to obtain any further relief required to ensure full compliance," Morero warned.

JOHANNESURG - The Democratic Alliance in Johannesburg has blamed the ANC-led coalition in the City of Joburg after the City lost all automated speed cameras According to the DA, seven months after the City of Johannesburg’s contract with Syntell lapsed in December 2025, not a single automated traffic speed camera is working. No replacement service provider has been appointed. This means lost revenue for the city and increased danger on our roads as speeding goes unpunished. The party has labeled this blunder as another ANC service delivery failure. "The ANC-led City of Joburg continues to collapse under poor management and corruption. The DA has repeatedly warned about these failures. A DA-led government would immediately restore critical enforcement systems and ensure Johannesburg works for its residents," the party weighed in.

DURBAN - Just before 11:30am this morning ALS Paramedics received multiple calls for a child who had fallen from a second floor apartment in Helen Joseph Road in Davenport area of Durban.  Paramedics arrived on the scene to find chaos as they found a young boy approximately Nine years of age who had fallen approximately 20 meters being attended to by Metro Police Search and Rescue. The little boy had sustained Multiple Critical injuries and Advanced Life Support Paramedics worked to stabilize the child on scene before rushing him through to a nearby Specialist Hospital for the further care that he required. At this stage the exact events leading up to the incident is unknown however SAPS were in attendance and will be investigating further

INANDA - Durban Metro Police Service Search and Rescue officers, working alongside the South African Police Service Search and Rescue, the eThekwini Fire Department, and other emergency services, responded to eBuhleni Home in Inanda following reports of a wall collapse during foundation excavation work. Multiple injuries have been reported, with several patients transported to hospital. Search and rescue operations remain underway as emergency teams continue working to locate and safely extricate those who may still be trapped. The Durban Metropolitan Police Service extends its thoughts and well wishes to all those affected by this incident. PRETORIA - Some 400 00 informal and micro businesses have been captured on the Department of Small Business Development (DSBD) Connect System. This is according to Inter-Ministerial Committee on Migration Chairperson and Justice Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi, who briefed the media on Sunday. “Registration of Informal and micro businesses is continuing. To date, more than 400 00 businesses have been captured on the DSBD Connect System, and the implementation of the plan will increase the number of registered businesses. “DSBD, SALGA [South African Local Government Association] and COGTA [the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs] are finalising the Project Implementation Plan,” Kubayi said. The system is a digital platform aimed at assisting the department to regulate and support spaza shops while helping small businesses to, among others, access funding and form OEM [Original Equipment Manufacturer] partnerships.

WATERLOO - An armed gang stole a large quantity of liquor from a bottle store in Waterloo, north of KZN during the early hours of Sunday morning. Reaction Officers were dispatched to the scene after receiving reports of a burglary in progress. On arrival, Officers discovered that the roller shutter door to the bottle store had been forced open. The padlocks had been cut off and the locking mechanism had been extensively damaged. Reaction Officers established that a group of armed suspects arrived in two (2) vehicles, one (1) of which was identified as a white Toyota Etios. The suspects stole a large quantity of liquor before loading it into the waiting vehicles and fleeing the scene. The suspects were allegedly armed with firearms.  Reaction Officers entered the premises and found numerous broken liquor bottles and a large quantity of alcohol spilled across the floor.

SOWETO - The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) Tactical Response Unit has successfully apprehended two male suspects following a gruesome discovery at a residence in Naledi, Soweto, on Thursday evening, 9 July 2026. JMPD officers were conducting routine Crime Prevention duties when they received a tip-off regarding a vehicle being stripped at a residence on Nape Street, Naledi. Upon arriving at the specified address, officers noted the property gate was open and proceeded into the yard. After discovering the front door of the house half-open and receiving no response to their knocks, officers entered the premises. They encountered a male suspect inside the house. After officers identified themselves and stated their purpose, the suspect indicated that the vehicle in question was located in the garage and belonged to the homeowner. JOHANNESURG -  The South African Football Association (SAFA) has dismissed claims that mentor Hugo Broos has left his role as the head coach of the South African senior men’s national team. According to SAFA, Broos remains as the head coach of Bafana Bafana and reports claiming the contrary are completely false.
