SEDIBENG  - Following information received from the Crime Intelligence Unit, members of the SAPS Tactical Team, Gauteng Traffic Police Saturation Unit, Gauteng Highway Patrol and the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) conducted an intelligence-driven operation in the Sedibeng area. KEMPTON PARK - Acting National Commissioner of the South African Police Service (SAPS), Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane, has applauded the work of a multidisciplinary team at OR Tambo International Airport (ORTIA) following the seizure of cocaine worth an estimated R200 million. On Tuesday, 25 August 2026, SAPS members attached to ORTIA, working with other law enforcement authorities, including Customs officials, intercepted two separate consignments of cocaine. In the first incident, two large travel suitcases were intercepted at the airport terminal. The suitcases contained blocks of suspected cocaine weighing approximately 84 kilograms. In a separate interception at the cargo section, four boxes containing approximately 250 kilograms of suspected cocaine, packed into 220 blocks, were seized. FREE STATE - A 50-year-old suspect, who is the husband of the victim, will appear in Zastron magistrate court soon on a charge of rape. This is after the incident that happened at their home in Refeng-kgotso in Zastron.   The 54-year-old victim alleges that on Friday, 14 August 2026, at 02:00, she was at home busy with her clients as she is a Sangoma. Her husband came to her and demanded to be intimate with her. The victim refused as she was busy working. The suspect grabbed her and forcefully took her to the room. He undressed both of them and violated her without consent. After he finished, he got into bed and went to sleep. During the morning of Friday, 18 August 2026, at 07:00, the victim decided to report the incident. A case of rape was opened and is being investigated by the Smitfield Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offenses Unit.

OVERBERG - Following the previous media statements issued by the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (the Department) we can confirm that laboratory sequencing has confirmed that pilchard herpesvirus (PHV) genetic material is present in sampled sardines. Its role in the recent sardine mortality remains under investigation. PHV was detected in both dead sardines and, at lower levels, in some apparently healthy sardine collected from the West Coast. This suggests that the presence of the virus alone may not be sufficient to cause mass mortality.    Scientists are therefore also investigating whether an environmental stressor, such as harmful algae, low oxygen or unusual oceanographic conditions, may have triggered or intensified the event. BEDFORDVIEW - A woman was killed on Friday morning after a large rock was allegedly thrown from the Concord Road Bridge onto the R24 freeway near Bedfordview, east of Johannesburg. The rock smashed through the windscreen of her vehicle on the eastbound carriageway, shortly before the Gillooly’s Interchange, at approximately 07:38. The impact caused fatal head injuries. The driver subsequently lost control of the vehicle, which crashed into the roadside barriers. She was declared dead at the scene. Ekurhuleni Metro Police confirmed that an inquest docket has been opened at Bedfordview SAPS. Authorities are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident or may have information that could assist the investigation to come forward.

JOHANNESBURG – The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) welcomes the sentencing of 26-year-old Victor Mokoena, who was sentenced by the Gauteng Division of the High Court, Johannesburg to four terms of life imprisonment for raping four young women whom he lured through social media under the pretext of modelling, promotional and photoshoot opportunities. Mokoena was convicted of four counts of rape, attempted murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, and pointing of an object resembling a firearm. HARARE — Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa has declared a State of Disaster following the fatal capsizing of a passenger boat on Lake Kariba on 11 August 2026. As of August 12, at least 44 people have been confirmed dead. The affected vessel, identified as the Rural Infrastructure Development Agency (RIDA) Mbuyanehanda, was traveling from Kariba to Chalala. IMPENDLE - Mildlands EMS Howick crews were dispatched to the Impendle area after receiving a call regarding a patient who had sustained serious leg injuries following a fall in the snow. The ambulance crew faced challenging conditions while responding to the incident, with roads in the area becoming slippery and sections of the route covered in snow. Despite the difficult driving conditions, the crew continued their response and made their way safely into the area to locate the patient. KOKSTAD - The KwaZulu-Natal Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) has confirmed snowfall in Kokstad, Underberg, Matatiele, and Clifton around Nottingham Road - prohibiting motorists from those areas. Meanwhile, a truck got stuck on R617 as the snow blocked the route. RTI has requested motorists to delay their trips and members of the public to remain indoors, as prevention is better than cure.

ALIWAL NORTH - The N6 between Kimber Bridge and Penhoek Pass is NOW CLOSED due to hazardous road conditions caused by heavy snowfall, Joe Gqabi District Municipality has confirmed. Provincial Traffic reports that snow has accumulated on the roadway, making the surface extremely slippery and unsafe for motorists. Overnight, a vehicle slipped and overturned near Penhoek Pass. Fortunately, no injuries or entrapments have been reported. REIGER PARK -  Police management yesterday visited the family home of 28-year-old Constable Sphiwe Sibeko, one of the Anti-Gang Unit members who was killed in Reiger Park on Friday evening. The delegation was led by the Acting Minister of Police, Mr Firoz Cachalia, and the Premier of Gauteng, Mr Panyaza Lesufi. The delegation has assured the family that the police will leave no stone unturned in the hunt for the perpetrators responsible for the killing of Constable Sibeko and his colleague. The message from police management is clear: those responsible will be pursued relentlessly and brought to justice.

Thoko is seen in the short clip naked with woman known to be famous on the social media streets. The woman, believed to be married, is fully naked in the selfie video taken by Limpopo boy.  The clip has gone viral, prompting the dancer to release a statement warning fans from distributing it.

KURUMAN - Kuruman SAPS are investigating an alleged shooting incident that occurred on Thursday, 6 August 2026 at approximately 18:00, at the Bankara T- junction in Kuruman.  It is alleged that the 36 -year-old male driver of a Toyota Quantum, with one passenger, was driving near the hitch-hiking spot at the Bankara T-junction where he stopped and two passengers embarked. It is alleged that one of the passengers was armed with a firearm.  The driver was reportedly forced into the seat behind the driver's seat. One of the passengers reportedly shot the driver in the face and shoulder. GQEBERHA - Eastern Cape Transport MEC, Xolile Nqatha, has commended women-led law enforcement operations that resulted in 34 arrests in two operations in Gqeberha. An overnight operation targeting impaired driving saw 20 suspected drunk drivers arrested between 18:00 and 02:00. An earlier multidisciplinary operation on the N2 near Kinkelbos resulted in one arrest for possession of an unlicensed firearm and 13 undocumented foreign nationals arrested. RICHARDS BAY - The Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) in KwaZulu-Natal has confirmed the unfortunate death of popular maskandi artist Scebi Dlamini. This follows an accident that occured at the traffic light opposite Melomed Hospital in Richards Bay on Women's Day, Sunday 9 August.  According to the report, the team from Road Traffic Inspectorate, Umhlathuze Traffic, working with the South African Police Service and other emergency rescue services did everything in their power, but unfortunately Inkosi Yamagcokama succumbed to severe injuries and died at the scene of the accident. RICHARDS BAY - Popular Maskandi artist Scebi Dlamini, who goes by the stage name Inkosi yamagcokama has died in an accident. South African Maskandi music community woke up to the sad news of the sudden passing of  the award-winning artist. It is reported that Dlamini died in a horrific car accident in the early hours of Sunday morning, 9 August 2026, while travelling to Richards Bay for an event. Tributes began pouring in almost immediately as news of the tragedy spread. Fans and fellow artists expressed shock and grief online, with many describing the loss as a heavy blow to the Maskandi genre.
