JOHANNESBURG -  The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) has reminded all residents, business owners, and visitors to the Inner City and surrounding municipal areas that public urination is strictly prohibited under multiple City of Johannesburg municipal by-laws, including: • Public Road and Miscellaneous By-laws: Prohibit urinating, excreting, or behaving indecently on or in view of any public road or public right-of-way. • Public Open Spaces By-laws: Prohibit public indecency, fouling, and causing a nuisance in municipal parks, squares, and public open spaces. • Public Health By-laws: Classify public urination as a public health hazard and illegal liquid discharge that creates an unsanitary nuisance. • Waste Management By-laws: Prohibit the contamination and fouling of public infrastructure and shared environments. KUGOMPO CITY - The Government Communication and Information System (GCIS), together with officials from the IEC, conducted a voter registration activation at the Ndende taxi rank in KuGompo CBD in Eastern Cape. According to Akhona Dlamini, Communication Assistant GCIS-EC Provincial Office, the activation aimed to encourage community members to exercise their right to vote by registering during the second voter registration weekend, taking place on 1 and 2 August 2026.  GCIS and the IEC engaged directly with commuters and taxi operators, distributing information and assisting with voter registration queries. "The activation was well received and successfully raised awareness about the importance of voter registration. Many people took the opportunity to confirm their registration details and learn more about the voting process," Dlamini reflected. President Cyril Ramaphosa confirmed Wednesday, 4 November 2026, as the date for the 2026 Local Government Elections.

HARRISMITH  - The  Department of Transport and Department of Human Settlements says it is  ensuring that its teams responds with agility to snow-prone areas. Part of its response plan, the department said graders, working with Road Traffic Inspectorate Teams will remove the snow before it can accumulate to above 30 cm on the road networks.   RTI teams in snow-prone areas such as N3, around Ladysmith, Kokstad, Underberg, Harding, Newcastle, N11, Pietermaritzburg and N2 will co-ordinate possible road closures to prevent motorists from getting stuck on the road.  

DURBAN - The Durban Metropolitan Police Service officers have charged an illegal trader found selling cow head meat without the required legal authorisation during a by-law enforcement operation in Durban CBD. The enforcement action forms part of ongoing efforts to ensure compliance with municipal by-laws, protect public health, and safeguard consumers from food sold outside approved standards. The Durban Metropolitan Police Service remains committed to maintaining a safe, clean and law-abiding trading environment across the City.

CAPE TOWN - Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis welcomed the arrival of ‘Evie’, the City’s first fully electric MyCiTi bus. This first bus has now passed rigorous performance testing on several routes. The City has confirmed an order for an initial 38 battery-electric buses as part of broader plans for a public transport system that is cleaner, smarter and less susceptible to diesel price fluctuations. The electric bus fleet will be deployed along the major new Cape Flats route expansion, set to benefit over 1,4 million residents across 30 neighbourhoods, from Mitchells Plain and Khayelitsha, to Wynberg and Claremont. This is South Africa’s biggest metro-led public transport project, with an overall infrastructure investment of R7,1bn committed to date.

LANGA - More than 200 bags of waste have been removed, over 20 stormwater drains cleared and hundreds of residents reached through a City-funded community project that is helping keep Langa cleaner, reduce localised flooding and encourage water-wise living. The Abahlobo Ekuhlaleni Non-Profit Organisation (NPO) is one of 22 organisations that received grant funding from the City of Cape Town's Water and Sanitation Directorate during the 2025/26 financial year, to support community-led water conservation initiatives. Through its Langa Drain Restoration and Water-Saving Community Campaign, the organisation addressed litter-clogged stormwater drains, stagnant water and poor waste management practices that contribute to localised flooding, pollution and unhealthy living conditions in the Lower Salt River sub-catchment. Implemented between February and June 2026, the project combined environmental restoration with community education to promote responsible water use.

KRUGERSDORP - Mogale City Local Municipality Mayor Lucky Sele provided an update on the water outage affecting parts of Krugersdorp and beyond. The outage is due to a planned Rand Water maintenance project which was scheduled for 17 to 19 July. Sadly, this has left many taps dry. However, Mayor Sele updated that the Rand Water maintenance was successfully completed yesterday. However, the recovery and replenishment of reservoirs is a gradual process, as reservoir levels were significantly affected by the maintenance work. "Residents may continue to experience low water pressure or intermittent water supply while the system recovers. We appreciate your patience and understanding as reservoir levels are restored and the network returns to normal operations," he cautioned. PRETORIA - In commemoration of Mandela Day, President Cyril Ramaphosa addressed the community members of Kekana Gardens at Maranatha Reformed Church of Christ during the launch of the National Water Access Acceleration Programme in Hammanskraal, Gauteng. The initiative is aimed at expanding access to safe and reliable water services for unserved and underserved communities across the country. A key milestone of the programme is the launch of 67 borehole symbolising the 67 years the founding Father of our democratic government and global icon, former President Nelson Mandela dedicated to serving humanity. The initiative forms part of a broader programme of Mandela Month service delivery activities geared towards the vulnerable in society. 

JOHANNESBURG - Illegal trading continues in areas that the court ordered must not be occupied or used at Marble Towers, the City of Johannesburg reflected as it intensifies bylaws in the Inner City. Joburg Mayor Dada Morero says the City of Johannesburg cannot and will not tolerate continued contempt of a court order. Those who choose to disregard the rule of law must face the consequences. "The City will now proceed with all lawful enforcement measures available to ensure compliance with the judgment. We will shut down all unlawful trading activities and secure every non-compliant structure as directed by the court. Where there is continued defiance, the City will return to court where necessary to obtain any further relief required to ensure full compliance," Morero warned.

JOHANNESURG - The Democratic Alliance in Johannesburg has blamed the ANC-led coalition in the City of Joburg after the City lost all automated speed cameras According to the DA, seven months after the City of Johannesburg’s contract with Syntell lapsed in December 2025, not a single automated traffic speed camera is working. No replacement service provider has been appointed. This means lost revenue for the city and increased danger on our roads as speeding goes unpunished. The party has labeled this blunder as another ANC service delivery failure. "The ANC-led City of Joburg continues to collapse under poor management and corruption. The DA has repeatedly warned about these failures. A DA-led government would immediately restore critical enforcement systems and ensure Johannesburg works for its residents," the party weighed in. 

CAPE TOWN - The City of Cape Town urgently appeals to all residents and businesses to use water for essential purposes only following two unrelated incidents that have significantly affected the City's water treatment capacity. Over the weekend, vandalism and cable theft damaged critical infrastructure at the Voëlvlei Water Treatment Plant, while a failure in the sludge management system at the Blackheath Water Treatment Plant has reduced production to maintain water quality standards. 💧 Please help by: ✅ Using water only for essential needs ❌ Postponing non-essential water use, including: • Watering gardens • Washing vehicles • Filling swimming pools • Hosing down paved areas "Our technical teams are working around the clock to restore full operations as quickly as possible. Your cooperation is essential to help protect bulk water storage levels and maintain a stable water supply across Cape Town," the City said.

CAPE TOWN - The City of Cape Town’s first electric bus arrived from Johannesburg, where the bodies of the MyCiTi electric bus fleet are being manufactured. This prototype e-bus will be piloted on a variety of routes in coming weeks to determine its performance on steep inclines and downhill, in the city environment with many stop-and-goes, in heavy traffic during peak periods, and when travelling longer distances. All-in-all, the City will take delivery of 38 low-floor battery-electric buses as part of the roll-out of the MyCiTi bus service to the metro-south east. The buses are expected to arrive during the current calendar year with the fleet earmarked for operational roll-out in 2027. These are 12-metre Volvo BZRLE battery-electric buses and the first MyCiTi buses where the bodies have been designed in South Africa and locally manufactured in Gauteng. DURBAN - The eThekwini Municipality has informed residents that the Hazelmere Water Treatment Works is currently experiencing low raw water storage levels, resulting in reduced water production capacity. As a result, water supply to several reservoirs is being carefully managed, and residents and businesses in the affected areas may experience reduced water pressure or intermittent water supply. To maximise the available water supply, pumping to the affected reservoirs is being alternated to allow reservoir storage levels to recover. The City's Water Operations teams are continuously monitoring reservoir levels and adjusting the water distribution network to minimise the impact on consumers. Consumers in the affected areas are urged to use water sparingly and only for essential purposes until normal water supply has been restored.
