Limpopo Boy takes full accountability for his actions, apologises to the Shai family

LIMPOPO - After retracting the initial statement, Robert Matome Thoka popularly known as Limpopo Boy has released another piece where he takes full accountability for his actions.

Limpopo Boy has become the most spoken about person on social media after a naked video clip of him and Matshidiso Matilda, a married female Content Creator, landed on the internet.

In the statement, Limpopo Boy apologises to the Shai family and claims that he wasn't aware that the woman she was caught naked with was married. Matshidiso is married to Kevin Shai. The pair tied the knot last year.

Date: 12th August 2026

To the people of South Africa,

I am writing this with a deeply humbled and heavy heart.

I know that what has happened has caused pain, anger, disappointment and many difficult emotions. I have heard the voices of South Africans, and I understand that many people have been affected by what has unfolded.

I want to take this opportunity to put matters into perspective without being defensive and show remorse for my poor judgement.

I have been raised by a Christian family which respects the sanctity of marriage, abhors adultery or infidelity and believes in the values of family and marriage.

I only discovered after the video was leaked that she was married. I should have independently verified her marital status before sharing a private moment with her. Instead of doing that, I threw caution to the wind and I’m now paying the price for my poor judgement.

For that, I am truly sorry. I profoundly apologise for my omission.

I want to apologise in particular to the Shai family for the tremendous pain I have put them through. That’s not how I was raised. I’m not a home wrecker.

I am sorry to everyone who has been hurt, disappointed or distressed in any way. I do not want to make excuses, dismiss anyone’s feelings, or pretend that words alone can undo what has happened.

I understand that my actions and circumstances do not exist in isolation. They affect my family, the people who care about me, and members of the public who have followed this matter and held me in high regard.

I accept that there are consequences that come with being in the public eye, and I understand the responsibility that comes with that.

At this moment, I am choosing humility over defensiveness. I am choosing to listen, reflect and learn from my mistakes. I’m not a saint, I’m not perfect either.

I cannot change what has already happened. What I can do is take this moment seriously, learn from it, and work towards becoming a better person.

To my family, to those who have stood by me, and to South Africans who feel hurt or disappointed by what has happened. I am sincerely sorry. Ntshwareleng! Sepedi sere ngwana a phosa dira ga a bolawe.

I know that trust is not restored through statements. It is restored through time, accountability and actions.

I ask for an opportunity to do better.

BEDFORDVIEW - A woman was killed on Friday morning after a large rock was allegedly thrown from the Concord Road Bridge onto the R24 freeway near Bedfordview, east of Johannesburg. The rock smashed through the windscreen of her vehicle on the eastbound carriageway, shortly before the Gillooly’s Interchange, at approximately 07:38. The impact caused fatal head injuries. The driver subsequently lost control of the vehicle, which crashed into the roadside barriers. She was declared dead at the scene. Ekurhuleni Metro Police confirmed that an inquest docket has been opened at Bedfordview SAPS. Authorities are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident or may have information that could assist the investigation to come forward.

HUSBAND TO APPEAR IN COURT FOR RAPE OF HIS WIFE

FREE STATE - A 50-year-old suspect, who is the husband of the victim, will appear in Zastron magistrate court soon on a charge of rape. This is after the incident that happened at their home in Refeng-kgotso in Zastron.   The 54-year-old victim alleges that on Friday, 14 August 2026, at 02:00, she was at home busy with her clients as she is a Sangoma. Her husband came to her and demanded to be intimate with her. The victim refused as she was busy working. The suspect grabbed her and forcefully took her to the room. He undressed both of them and violated her without consent. After he finished, he got into bed and went to sleep. During the morning of Friday, 18 August 2026, at 07:00, the victim decided to report the incident. A case of rape was opened and is being investigated by the Smitfield Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offenses Unit.

Parliament approves extension of driving license card validity

CAPE TOWN - Parliament has approved the extension of driving license card validity in South Africa, which will increase the time between renewals from 5 to 10 years. Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni confirmed the approval in a post-Cabinet briefing on 30 July. Cabinet approved the extension of the validity period for license codes A, A1, B and EB, Ntshavheni said. However, this will only apply to light motor vehicles. Heavy, commercial and transport vehicles will adhere to the current renewal cycles of between two and five years, and professional licenses will remain on the two-year cycle.

NEW EVIDENCE EMERGES IN SARDINE MORTALITY INVESTIGATION

OVERBERG - Following the previous media statements issued by the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (the Department) we can confirm that laboratory sequencing has confirmed that pilchard herpesvirus (PHV) genetic material is present in sampled sardines. Its role in the recent sardine mortality remains under investigation. PHV was detected in both dead sardines and, at lower levels, in some apparently healthy sardine collected from the West Coast. This suggests that the presence of the virus alone may not be sufficient to cause mass mortality.    Scientists are therefore also investigating whether an environmental stressor, such as harmful algae, low oxygen or unusual oceanographic conditions, may have triggered or intensified the event. This remains a hypothesis requiring further evidence. Tests for toxins in sardines collected off Saldanha Bay, the Cape Canyon and Gansbaai, together with an apparently healthy comparison sample from St Helena Bay...
