Good News: Loadshedding suspended by Minister

JOHANNESBURG - The Minister of Electricity Kgosientsho Ramokgopa has announced the suspension of loadshedding this morning, Sunday, 2 January.

His brief statement reads: 

I am pleased to announce that load-shedding, which began on Friday, 31 January 2025, has been officially suspended from this morning 06:00, 02 February 2025! 

This has been achieved through the relentless efforts of our dedicated teams at Eskom. 

I want to take a moment to sincerely apologize for the disruptions and challenges that load-shedding has imposed on your daily lives. The frustration and difficulties you have faced can never be normalised.

I therefore wish to assure you that we remain committed to ensuring that load-shedding is permanently behind us through our continued and tireless efforts to deliver reliable, affordable, and accessible electricity for all.

DURBAN -  The eThekwini Municipality's Recreation and Parks Directorate, working together with the City's Emergency Services, are attending to multiple incidents across the city following strong winds that swept through eThekwini this afternoon and early evening, uprooting trees and disrupting traffic in several communities. No injuries have been reported at this stage. Since last night, 23 fallen trees had been reported across the city. Penuel "The Black Pen" Mlotshwa makes his vote public

JOHANNESBURG - Podcaster and activist Penuel "The Black Pen" Mlotshwa has made his vote known for the upcoming Local Government Elections. Mlotshwa, who's no stranger to sharing his political views online, went public about his preferred party for the elections taking place in November. "I'm voting for ActionSA in my ward and for my PR vote in Johannesburg. "I'd like ActionSA to get more of the 270 seats available to run the JHB city council," he said. BOKSBURG - The Gauteng National Taxi Association is threatening a provincial industry strike should its concerns remain ignored. The Association says if a meeting with Roads and Transport MEC, Kedibone Diale-Tlabela isn't fruitful and its memorandum of demands aren't met, consequently this force them to disrupt services for seven days. On Thursday, 16 July 2026, MEC held a strategic engagement with the Vosloorus and Boksburg District Taxi Association (VBDTA) in Ekurhuleni, as part of the provincial government's ongoing efforts to strengthen collaboration with the minibus taxi industry.
